Heads up everyone out there who wants to translate CataBlog into their local language, the files are available and ready for localization. Simply download the latest development version, 1.2.1 and inside the catablog folder will be a localization folder with an explanatory read me file and the catablog.pot file. Open the POT file in the appropriate application and generate a PO and MO file for me with your translated strings.
If you have any questions about how to translate a WordPress Plugin or are curious about working with POT, PO or MO files, please read Translating WordPress. If you have questions or are curious about the context of a string, please use the notes section to mark up the particular string with your question or comment.
Once again I thank anyone and everyone who shows interest, and even more importantly, who helps make better this community software.
Hi Zachery. Can you help me with this problem? I am trying to create a static gallery for my graphic design and writing pages. I want to upload my thumbnails (280 x 80) which have a “DOWNLOAD PDF” link at the bottom. They fit 3 across and a couple of rows down. I need them to be in a particular order but when I do the insert in the WP window on a specific page, it gets messed up. Can you help me? The page isn’t published yet because I don’t want to put it up there looking like a mess. Thanks!

Hi Grace, here are the steps I would take to have CataBlog work with the original uploaded images as if they were thumbnails. The most important things to pay attention to are turning off the LightBox (default setting) and making sure to replace the %IMAGE% token with the %IMAGE-FULLSIZE% token in your CataBlog Template code. You should also hardcode the width attributes for the <img /> tag.
In CataBlog Options:
original:
<img src="%IMAGE%" class="catablog-image" width="%IMAGE-SIZE%" alt="" />
replacement:
<img src="%IMAGE-FULLSIZE%" class="catablog-image" width="280" alt="" />
In your theme’s code
As far as displaying 3 items across and how the catalog item are displayed on the page in general, that is up to you to know and understand CSS well enough to override the default properties for CataBlog’s style classes. You may learn more about CSS by reading w3schools.com and using Firebug for FireFox.
como faço para ativar a tradução português tem alguma opção. Brazil
Los ciento, no hablo portugués. Hablo un poco español, pero necesito hablamos en ingles.
How Do I activate a Portuguese translation has some option. other languages in the light box for the word next and previous can not translate verjuice antenção by now. Brazil
You would need to duplicate the POT file in the localization folder of the CataBlog plugin and rename it with the appropriate language code. Then you will need to use a POT editor to open the file and start translating strings into Portuguese. Currently CataBlog is translated into Spanish, Sami and German. If you want to translate it into Portuguese that would be awesome.
Please note that I do not check the validity of the translation files because I am not fluent in any language other than American english.
I installed catablog for my customer its working nice but the “transposh-translation-filter-for-wordpress” doesnt translate the headings to russian actually it doesnt show the text at all… other languages are working fine. Thanks for the nice plugin
Interesting, I’m not familiar with “transposh-translation-filter-for-wordpress” so I am not sure how to help you. If you say it’s working for other languages I might contact the translation plugin developers. Since some languages work and others don’t, I believe CataBlog is not the culprit. Still I don’t really know.
I’m growing to love this plugin more and more. Two questions- 1) How can I have mutliple translations for each product? 2) Is there a quick way to let people download the whole library as a pdf?
Thanks you for your kind words about CataBlog. If you haven’t already you may rate and confirm CataBlog works with your version of WordPress at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/catablog/
1) I don’t think other multi language plugins work with CataBlog. You could have multiple versions of the same catalog item with different languages. Using two categories in your Shortcode could then make different pages.
Another option is to modify your theme to use the browser’s language and call CataBlog directly through its built in PHP template function.
2) There isn’t a PDF export built in to CataBlog. I think there is a plugin to save a PDF of the current page, perhaps that paired with a page that shows your entire catalog would work.
Here is a great online translation tool that works professionally with po, pot, mo and other files: https://poeditor.com/. You should really give it a try as an alternative. And for wordpress users, it also has this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/poeditor/ that allows you to worl directly from wordpress. Really cool.
