PayPal Shopping Cart Support

So I am entertaining the idea of adding support for PayPal into CataBlog due to the needs of a client of mine. Basically I would let you add a price to a catalog item which would make an "Add to Cart" button appear under the description of the item. Still not sure how to deal with a view cart button, or if it's entirely necessary. Stay tuned and please add your own feelings below. Ciao.

You’d get my vote for a Paypal shopping cart. As for implementation, a WordPress Widget would be great. I could then use Widget Logic plugin to conditionally display it.

      Phil,

You can easily add a ‘buy now’ button to your catalog items with the latest version of CataBlog. All that is required is for you to go to the Options page, Store tab and enter your PayPal account email address. Then select the only option from the buy now button template drop down menu and load and save. Any item that has a price above zero should have a purchase button. As far as a sidebar widget goes, it’s in the works. Cheers

First, thanks very much for a great plug-in!

I live in South Africa and I was actually looking for a shopping cart that allowed a payment provider other than PayPal so I could charge for subscriptions to my Blog, when I found CataBlog. Using it, I was able to get it to use a local payment provider simply by changing the default store template for PayPal!

Now the only problem is I now have to manually add subscribers to s2Member for my member management solution to work properly. Thanks for making such a flexible plugin – CataBlog is one of the best plug-ins I have ever found for WordPress!

Trevor, thank you for the awesome comment. If you would really like to show your support you can confirm that CataBlog works with your version of WordPress here.

      Thanks,
      – Zach

Hey Zack, It’s been a little while. Great updates to Catablog, cheers!

I just added it to another client and we’re using the paypal feature so they can buy the products.

Running into an issue of not being able to add shipping onto orders? Maybe I’m doing something wrong on the paypal side but any clarifications from you would be awesome!

Also, is there any plans for adding a back to cart feature for Catablog?

    Thanks for your help.

    All the best-
    Markus

      Hey Markus,

Glad to hear from you again. I am currently too busy to look up a solution for shipping. You might be able to use the product code for shipping…but there are certain nuances like quantity that I’m sure you are aware of.

For a back to cart link I would use the PayPal tools to generate a button for you. I would like to do a Shortcode but am working other things currently. Like separate width and height values for thumbnails.

Cheers and glad to have you back 😉

      • Markus says:

        Hey Zack,

Thanks for getting back to me. I wasn’t looking for your to create a solution, I though maybe other users had run into this before and there was a paypal work around or something like that.

When you said might be able to use the product code for shipping, did you mean that paypal could recognize a product code and assign a shipping cost to it or actually make the product code a price for shipping and add it in some way? Thanks for that clarification.

I like all the new updates you’ve put into Catablog.

        Cheers!

        • Zach says:

I was thinking that you could set the value for shipping in the product code, but that would also mean loosing the ability to have a product code, since you would be replacing it with a numeric value.

I am unsure about PayPal’s ability to map shipping costs to product quantities and codes. Still, somehow I feel like there has to be a way to do that…perhaps through PayPal’s control panels. Otherwise you would need to build your own shopping cart that would save purchases and calculate a shipping cost at checkout.

Really, I haven’t had much time or need to use PayPal’s services recently, so I am probably not the best person to ask.

            Zack,
Thanks for the info and ideas. I’ll dig in deeper into it and when I find a solution that works, I’ll post it here in case anyone else runs into this issue.
            Have a great weekend!
            All the best-
            Markus

    Markus – Zack,

Love catalog so far. Currently running into the same issue as Markus. Client needs different shipping costs assigned to different products. Was wondering if you guys ran across a solution or workaround?

  5. Deby says:

I am also looking for shipping options – I would ideally like a first item shipping cost and a subsequent item shipping cost too.

    • Zach says:

CataBlog will not do this for you, but you can integrate any shopping cart software you want with CataBlog. Cart66 is an example of a product that people have used in the past with CataBlog.

Ok, I admit I am totally new to WordPress. I have been a 9 year Joomla developer, but have had many, many request to build a WP site, so here I am…:-)

I have no problem displaying the item, price and buy now button….my problem is when I click the “Buy Now” I get this error: ” PayPal cannot process this transaction because of a problem with the seller’s website. Please contact the seller directly to resolve this problem.”

The only place I found to add my PayPal ID email address was on the store tab from templates. I found a place in the code to put in my email….it still gives me this error tho…:-( Please, what am I missing?

Thank you tons!! And I love this idea if I can get it to work!

      Hi Karen,

Welcome to WordPress land, we are happy to have you. I have done some work in Joomla as well, and maybe, eventually you will see why I like WordPress more. But that is all just my opinion. Can you please post the code you have in the store tab? Also, have you tried generating a buy now button at PayPal and pasting that code into the Store Template?
